Off the Beaten Track is Small Media's webzine report tracking the history of Iranian sportswomen—their triumphs, their struggles, and their ongoing battle to win recognition and support.
As the London 2012 Olympics approached, issues of women athletes from Muslim majority countries were splashed across the headlines. When the Iranian women’s football team was disqualified from an Olympic qualifying match because their hijab did not conform to the uniform code, Small Media began researching the history, structure and representation of women’s sport in Iran.
We designed a zine and a timeline to provide a glimpse into the situation of women’s sports in Iran and Iranian women athletes.
